Call for Grants 2024

The Foundation is pleased to call for Applications for 2024 Grants from complying organisations in our catchment area.

To qualify for consideration for a grant the applying organisation must meet the following conditions:

  • Be a not for profit organisation.
  • The project must fall within the geographical boundaries of the AB&DHF. The district can be regarded generally as extending approximately from Wye River through Apollo Bay to Lavers Hill and from the coast to the line drawn from Lavers Hill to Forrest.
  • Must fall within the charter of activities supported by the Foundation.

Important Note: When reviewing grants we give precedence to grant applications which have health outcomes as the primary objective – not as a secondary by-product of a project which has a primary objective other than health.

Please see the Charter of Supported Activities for further details and Past Grants for examples of previous successful grants.

Detailed grant applications must be submitted by the closing date of Monday 14th June, 2024. Applications must be made on the AB&DHF Grant Application form supported by a detailed project description and costing.

2022 Annual General Meeting

3pm, Saturday 5th November at Captains at the Bay, 21 Pascoe St, Apollo Bay

We cordially invite everyone to join us at Captains at the Bay for our AGM followed by refreshments.

We will be presenting and acknowledging Grants totalling $21,979 for the year ended 30 June 2022.

We will also be acknowledging the distribution of $34,355 made to organisations who made a significant contribution to the successful Great Ocean Road Running Festival in May this year.

Our Grants, including funding of new projects within our district, would not be possible without the support of our Members and the generous bequests left to the Health Foundation. We encourage everyone to consider making a bequest to the Apollo Bay and District Health Foundation to enable us to continue supporting the community, now and in the future.

We are also very pleased to advise that our Guest speaker this year is Sandy Chamberlin, CEO of Great Ocean Road Health.

GOR Running Festival & 2020 Grants

2020 has been a year like no other. Ordinarily at this time of year we would be distributing funds to local organisations from money raised through the Great Ocean Road Running Festival. But we must stay positive and look forward to the next event when we will help IMG (the event organisers) make it bigger and better.

Sadly, this year we will not be calling for grant applications. The funds ordinarily set aside for grants have been used for rent relief for Apollo Bay Opportunity Shop (owned by The Foundation) and giving a further $30k to the Aquatic Centre to make our total contribution $60k for this wonderful community project. We would have loved to have matched the $36k that we granted to the community last year but alas, it was not meant to be.

It’s now time to look forward to the completion of the Aquatic Centre where we can celebrate the successes of our wonderful town of Apollo Bay.

How can we support you?

We are not hibernating.  We, as Trustees, would love to know if you have a health initiative that needs support.

Please contact us at info@abhealthfoundation.org. You never know, we might just be able to help.

2020 Great Ocean Road Running Festival

The Apollo Bay & District Health Foundation is extremely proud and excited to be the OFFICIAL CHARITY of the Great Ocean Road Running Festival for the seventh year and to be able to provide a direct benefit back to communities located along the race route.

Given continued cuts to government spending coupled with over 2.8 million visitors a year, our small communities must generate additional funding to maintain and improve health services for locals and visitors alike.

Since inception in 1999 we have distributed over $380,000 in grants to the local community and over $236,000 has been distributed from the Great Ocean Road Marathon/Running Festival in the last 6 years.  See a full list of grants we’ve given and organisations who’ve benefited from the Health Foundation in the last 20 years.

If you’ve participated previously you’ll know what a tremendous job the Volunteers do…

  • Keeping the route safe by marshalling the roads
  • Providing refreshments to competitors
  • Ensuring safe and efficient transfer of your bags and
  • Importantly, helping to clean up the Great Ocean Road after the event

The Apollo Bay & District Health Foundation source and organise all of the volunteers from Wye River to Apollo Bay so that your Running Festival experience will be a great one.  We were thrilled with your enthusiastic comments on social media about the enthusiasm and support provided to you by our Volunteers – it was overwhelming!

Please help us by giving something back to our local communities who are supporting you at this iconic event….
