The Great Ocean Road Festival of Wellness

May 16-17 2015 marks the inaugural Great Ocean Road Festival of Wellness.

The GMHBA Great Ocean Road Marathon attracts more than 15,000 visitors to the coast, most of whom stay in our community for the whole weekend.B Feedback indicates that they are looking for something to do to fill in their time whilst waiting for their brunnersb to warm-up, run and recover.

The Apollo Bay and District Health Foundation has taken the initiative to develop the Great Ocean Road Festival of Wellness and invites all community members, wellness professionals, stall holders, food vendors and cafC) owners who are interested in being involved in this inaugural event to submit an expression of interest.

The Festival will showcase local health and wellness professionals such as Yoga therapists, Pilates, massage, healing and wellness coaches, as well as local fresh food suppliers and other stallholders in a village atmosphere.

There will be daytime activities and entertainment for the children and evening entertainment including busking and music for the crowds.

Our guest speaker, Tiffany Holt, Principal of Apollo Bay P-12 College, inspired us all with her vision of how to deliver extraordinary outcomes by working together.

Grants were also made to the following groups for supporting the Great Ocean Marathon.B Apollo Bay P-12 College, Apollo Bay Preschool, Apollo Bay Sailing Club, Wye River CFA, Wye River Surf Life Saving Club, Kennett River Progress Association and Apollo Bay Community Website Inc.

What a year itbs been b In total we were able to distribute $92,000B for the health and wellbeing of our community.

The Marathon's Healthy Community Connections

The Apollo Bay & District Health Foundation is pleased and proud to announce that as a result of the fantastic fundraising efforts of the runners, the generosity of our major sponsors and other supporters, the enthusiastic volunteering by local groups and the fabulous support of our community, we managed to raise more than $37,500 through the Great Ocean Road Marathon to distribute back into our community, as follows:

The Apollo Bay & District Health Foundation

– Preferred Charity fo the Great Ocean Road Marathon –

The Health Foundation manages a public charitable trust fund to support, promote and protectB the health of the community of Apollo Bay and surrounding towns. The fundsB raised are returned, via grant applications, back to non-profit community organisations. Our financialB assistance is paramount to maintaining and improving health-related and associated facilities in our community. We have so far given to the local hospital (OHCS), aged care facility, ambulance service,B child care, kinder, school, CFA, local sports clubs and many more. This year, the Health Foundation has been appointed the Preferred Charity for the Great Ocean Road Marathon, which will take place on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May. B We still have to compete for donations against many high profile charities.B We are just at the top of the list. This festival comprises 6 different events over the two days and attracts more than 5,500 runners from Victoria, interstate and overseas. We encourage you to become our partner in this very exciting event.B You can do this by:
  • joining our local team in the half-marathon, the “Bay Town Rollers”;
  • getting your own team together for any of the 6 events and raising money for our community;
  • volunteering to assist during the event; and
  • making a donation.
With strong community support we hope to be able to raise over $100k in the next couple of years.
